Savor It by Tarah DeWitt: More than Small-Town Romance

Savor It by Tarah DeWitt is a book you don’t want to put down or end. Small-town romance doesn’t do justice to the beautiful story of Sage and Felix. I can’t wait to reread it soon.

Savor It by Tarah DeWitt Publisher Description

Summer won’t last forever.

Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life.

She’s learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town’s inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win―something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place.

The Festival of Spunes, the town’s annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.
When Fisher loses his Michelin star along with his love of cooking, his boss sends him and Indy to Spunes on a much-needed summer sabbatical to consult on a restaurant opening. But when clashes with the townspeople threaten his last chance to redeem himself and a kiss with his new neighbor Sage leads to dating rumors, a strategic alliance might just be the best way to turn things around.

A deal is struck. Sage will improve Fisher’s image in the eyes of the town and remove the roadblocks he is facing with the restaurant, and Fisher will be Sage’s partner for the competition. But as their pact quickly turns into steamy rendezvous, emotional wounds begin to heal, and the pair tries to savor every moment, they start to realize that summer is racing by much faster than they would like…

Savor It Review

I wasn’t this excited while reading a book since January when I picked up Once Upon a Broken Heart. I read half of it in one sitting and couldn’t wait to be back in Spunes, Oregon, with Felix and Sage. It is an incredible story about loss, grief, finding purpose, and letting go of negativity.

The story follows Sage and Fisher. Sage is a teacher living in a small town, collecting pets and enjoying her life. On the contrary, Fisher is fired from his job as a chef. Also, he is grieving his sister while being the guardian of his niece, Indy. She is a rebellious teenage girl, and connecting with her is challenging for Fisher.

He was once a Michelin star-winning chef, in love with his job. But, somewhere along the way, he lost his passion. And now, he is back to basics to find his fire while figuring out how to deal with Indy.
To get his old job back, he goes to a small town in Oregon to create a menu and help set up a new restaurant. However, Indy and Felix despise small towns.

Sage lost her parents at a very young age. She connects with Indy because she understands how losing a mother is.
Her relationship with the town’s golden boy, Ian, ended after five years. He is now with her former best friend, and even though she doesn’t want him back, she feels insecure due to his constant criticism. He made her feel small and insignificant.

However, she is very content with her life. I find Sage to be a very inspirational and relatable character.

Fisher described Sage as a dichotomy, and she truly is. She is gentle and fierce at the same time. Moreover, she is insecure and somehow confident when she needs to be.

Both characters are perfect, flawed, and complex. Life happens to them, and they have real-life problems. Not everything is perfect. The story is not over-the-top cheezy. Banter is funny and witty, especially Sage. She has big dreams. But, due to her previous relationship, she is afraid to reach for them.

Savor It by Tarah DeWitt

Writing is fast-paced and very descriptive. When DeWitt describes the town, it feels like she transports you there. Due to this, you will fall in love not just with the characters but also with Spunes. Writing is fast-paced and very descriptive.
